We’d been childhood friends until suddenly we weren’t.
For years I’d loved him from the sidelines.
When I had my chance, I took it.
Hoping that it was my time to be seen by him, to be loved by him, to be wanted by him. My stupid, stupid, stupid heart.
He hurt me, and then I hurt him.
I thought he’d never speak to me again when he found out what I’d kept from him.
I should have had faith in him, in the man I knew he could be if only he’d let go of his past.
We’d been friends once, and we would be again.
