When his children's nanny quits without warning, hockey star Leo Hartman needs a stopgap. Catharina Alonso needs a roof. A schoolteacher and a friend of his teammate, she has nowhere to go after her apartment burns, and moving in as his live-in nanny looks like the practical answer for both of them.
It is only supposed to last until the school year ends.
Cat plans to look after the children and ignore their attractive, brooding father.
Leo expects her to fit the careful order of his house.
Instead she challenges him at every turn, stirring feelings he thought were long buried, while an unexpected bond with his children draws her closer to the gruff single father who keeps everyone at arm's length.
Family crises and the pressure of the playoffs force a harder choice.
Cat can hold to her self-reliance or trust Leo as the partner she never imagined finding.
He is ready to risk the walls he has kept up for the woman who brought joy back into his home and showed him there is more to life than winning.
