Aiden is doing better after his kidnapping, but the fear did not leave when he was rescued.
A roommate has become family, a pack of otherworldly creatures has taken them in and kept them safe, and baking, therapy, and walks help, as does the sweet guard dog who follows him through the woods and hears what he will not say aloud, including his fear of his own family and of being caged again.
The dog is Atlas, raised by wolves and later adopted by Wilder, a hellhound who likes solitude and has no ease with people unless they are hellbound and he is killing them.
Aiden calls to that hellhound anyway, and Atlas will answer to Fluffy if it lets him stay close and keep the man safe.
Once he learns Aiden is in danger, he cannot hang back, no matter how the traumatized human may react to learning his guard dog was never only a dog.
