Life can change at the drop of a hat. I should know.
On the way home after crossing state lines, my club and I stop at a diner just outside of Vegas.
While standing outside, taking in the sunset over the desert landscape, the wind blows a baseball hat in my direction, and I catch it.
Only to have the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life run straight towards me. There’s something about her that my soul instantly recognizes as mine.
But it’s the fear in her eyes that makes my over-protective instincts rise. It’s obvious she’s on the run. From what, I’m not sure, and I don’t care. Jessie is mine.
And by the way she’s looking at me, she knows it, too. I’ll do anything in my power to prove I’m nothing like what she ran away from.
I make her an offer she can’t refuse—a place to stay and a job to help her get back on her feet. I’ll be her shelter in a storm and keep her safe. Forever.
