After the media releases an inflammatory story about my sexual exploits, I find myself in hot water.
And now my soccer team’s new sponsor wants to strip me of my captain badge and kick me off the team. My coach’s hands are tied. There’s nothing he can do, he says.
Maybe if I was in a committed relationship we could use it to reform my public image, and he’d be able to convince the sponsor to keep me on the team… Lucky for me, the feisty single mom I met at the dentist’s office needs a fake relationship of her own.
And with a heart as damaged as mine, falling in love with her won’t be an issue. Pretty sure Eden doesn’t like me all that much anyway. I just have to play pretend for a while.
Pretend to melt into every kiss, every touch, every longing look across the room. Pretend to adore her. Pretend to love her more than I’ve ever loved anyone before.
Except, when all is said and done, I’m not sure I was ever pretending at all.
