Elsie Cameron can talk her way through almost anything, but the truth about why she left Boston stays locked away.
She arrives in the small Massachusetts town of Colbridge with a narrow plan: finish her novel, prove she can follow through on something, and deal with the rest later.
Will Hughes, the town’s brooding coffee shop owner, keeps turning up to repair the old house she is renting and to offer her rides, until trying to dislike him becomes a losing fight.
His polished, self-sufficient sister-in-law makes it clear that not everyone wants Elsie there, and Colbridge is far less welcoming than it first appeared.
The closer she draws to Will, the harder it is to ignore the secrets she came to outrun, a deadline she set for herself, and feelings she never meant to have.
She has to decide whether this stop is only a pause on the way somewhere else, or the home she has been looking for.
