Bo promised me I’d find life in more places than death. But it was only in the middle of combat I felt the air fill my lungs in a way I’d never experienced before. What if something was wrong with me? What if I was always going to need an adrenaline rush bigger than the last in order to feel something?
Sometimes, you didn’t have to wait long for answers. Then again, I’d waited in my pit of cowardice for years already. Nevertheless…Bo was proving to be a man worth listening to. Maybe there was hope. Maybe I would find out for myself that some clichés were very true and that life began outside the comfort zone. Like in a war zone? Okay, that was half a joke.
I cracked jokes when I was nervous—but freaking excuse me. My whole future was on the line. The battlefield was literally on fire, and then shots blasted through the air, and I looked at Bo and felt horror draining my face of color.
