Professional baseball was my whole identity until early retirement forced me off the roster, and watching my former team chase the playoffs without me still stings.
After I wreck my Lambo, my agent sends me to a private retreat on Sanctuary Lake in the wilds of Maine, with no phone, no internet, and nothing but trees, stars, and too much time to remember the first ball my dad ever tossed me.
Blaze, the activities director, is easy company and willing to try whatever the day brings, so hiking, fishing, and stargazing keep pulling us into the same hours.
A candlelit dinner that was never supposed to be a date makes me admit I have wanted more than friendship with him.
When my old team comes back with an unexpected offer, I have to choose the life I thought I could not live without or stay off the trail with Blaze.
