My entire life, as far back as I can remember, I had a baseball in my hands. Baseball was the one true constant in my life. A game Ive always loved, and Im good at it.
So when my dream came true to play professionally, everything felt like itd finally aligned. I dropped everything, but the hardest part, was leaving my family and those I love behind.

Hed gotten the chance of a lifetime. So it would have been wrong for me to hold him back. I smiled, and wished him the best, pretending that watching him leave wasnt one of the hardest things Id ever faced. Id pretended, and done a great job at it, until I was invited to travel with a group of friends to watch him play.
Everything was different under all the lights, with the sounds of thousands of fans cheering. It was surreal, and when our eyes met, all those feelings Id tucked away came rushing back.
How do I pretend that I dont still feel like Kelton James has my heart in his hands. How do I hold back, when he pulls me in for a hug. The familiar scent of his cologne taking me back to the last time he held me close.
Most importantly, how do I walk away a second time?
