When Mr. Darcy looks into Mrs. Younge's references and refuses to hire her, lonely Georgiana chooses to spend the summer of 1811 at Rosings Park with Cousin Anne.
The season alters them both: Anne is no longer a frail invalid, and Georgiana leaves behind her timid, retiring ways.
That autumn she accompanies her brother to Netherfield to visit Charles Bingley, and they are startled to find George Wickham in Meryton.
Darcy commands her to stay away from their old friend without offering any explanation, yet Georgiana, tempted by Wickham's looks and charm, ignores the order.
Darcy is attracted to Elizabeth from the first meeting, but she dislikes him because he reminds her too strongly of the father from whom she has grown estranged.
After Mr. Collins comes to visit, Mr. Bennet is so repelled by his heir that he seeks a means of ending the entail, and Darcy knows a difficult legal maneuver that may help.
