Maisie has always been a little reckless, but her new job as the fire station administrator is her chance to prove she’s more than just the chief’s daughter. Unfortunately, her dad doesn’t trust her to stay out of trouble—especially with Brett, the calm, commanding firefighter who’s lived next door her entire life.
When her dad leaves town, Brett is tasked with keeping Maisie on track. But one midnight rescue gone hilariously wrong (burnt toast, no clothes, and a lot of blushing) reveals a side of Maisie he can’t ignore: spirited, sweet, and clearly in need of someone to ground her chaos.
Brett knows he shouldn’t get involved. Maisie is impulsive, infuriating, and far too young for his carefully ordered life. But the more time they spend together, the more he craves the chance to guide her, protect her, and maybe even give her the structure she didn’t know she needed.
If anyone finds out, they risk everything—his job, her reputation, and the fragile trust between them. But resisting her isn’t an option. Not when taking care of Maisie feels like the most natural thing in the world.
