Alex Nixon has built a successful television career teaching people how to come out ahead in life.
After a disastrous awards speech goes viral and reveals that she has no friends, a fractured family, and a boyfriend who has just ended things, she retreats to her cottage to wait out the publicity.
She means to get through the festive season with only her rescue dog, Ernest, for company, yet she soon finds herself among the eccentric, welcoming members of the Friends Wanted club and face to face with Will, a kind single father raising three lively, endearing children.
When a devastating family crisis upends the tentative peace she has begun to build, Alex must decide whether to shut the world out or finally drop the flawless public image she has worked so hard to keep.
The holidays ahead will test whether new friends and genuine love can offer her something far richer than the polished life she showed everyone else.
