I won’t be able to pay rent this month if I don’t get this job. I was sitting in the lobby, waiting for my interview when his personal assistant walked out and looked me up and down.
She scoffed and said, “Sweetie, ummm no, we’re not hiring anyone who shows up wearing shoes like that.” I stood up to leave, because I didn’t want to cry in front of a lobby full of people.
Suddenly, the elevator opened and he stepped out. He looked at his assistant, then at me. then at the tears I was trying to hide. He asked what happened.
His assistant straightened up and said, “I was just letting her know we don’t have any open positions, sir.” He looked at my resume and read it in about three seconds, and said, “We do now.” Then he looked at his assistant and calmly told that her she was done, and to grab her things and get out.
Then he looked at me and growled, “You start now. Be in my office in 30 minutes.”
