I know I shouldn’t, it’s only going to hurt in the end…
Callum Ash isn’t for me. Just as well, because I don’t want him anyway. Up until a few days ago, both those things were true.
But there’s something about him that’s caught hold of my heart and refuses to let go. We aren’t soulbound like Morgan and Lynx.
I shouldn’t find it this hard to stay away from him when I know nothing good can come from it. Because Ash is human, skirting the edges of a world that would eat him up and spit out the leftovers.
A world he has no idea exists. He doesn’t know what we are, what his best friend has become. And when he finds out the truth, he won’t feel the same about any of us. Especially me.
All valid reasons for me to keep my distance, and yet here I am night after night, watching over him. Knowing it’s going to end badly. But I need him to be safe.
And in the end, that’s all that matters.
