I don’t believe in reckless decisions. Which makes waking up in Las Vegas the morning after a wedding to a woman I just met somewhat… inconvenient.
She’s sunnier than the sun itself and we both have a reputation to consider. An annulment would make us both look bad. Instead, we agree to something else.
Something temporary and contained until this “marriage” blows over. A solution that makes sense on paper and nowhere else. At least, that’s what I tell myself.
But she has a way of complicating things without trying. She looks at me like I’m not as in control as I pretend to be. She fits into spaces I never intend to leave for anyone.
She makes me question every belief I’ve ever had about claiming a woman as my wife. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t already consider her mine.
I tell myself this marriage ends when the deal is done. I can walk away from her as easily and impulsively as I married her. Or not. I’ve been wrong before. Just not like this.
Because the longer she stays, the less I want her to leave. She’s starting to feel like someone I was never meant to walk away from. Like she was always bound to be mine.
