Bastien was my first love. Even when we were kids I only had eyes for him. Back then he was all hands and feet, too big in his own body. Now he’s all grown up—and I do mean grown.

Bastien was the one who taught me how to ride a bike; picked me up and carried me home when I’d scrape my knee; and he was there to see me through every childhood bump in the road.
So when we’re snowed in and I go into my first heat there’s no one I’d rather have to take me through it.
The trouble is, he’s waiting for his fated mate and I can never be her. I’m not a shifter. Only my brother inherited the magic, so as much as I want him, the kindest thing is to let Bastien go.
