As a traveling nurse, the temporary assignments were part of the appeal. I didn’t have a family to miss me nor a need to start my own. I visited places I never would have seen otherwise, met a lot of interesting people, and learned lessons that can’t be taught from a book. Eventually, though, it wasn’t enough. I wanted more. I just didn’t know what, or who, until Peter Hawkins.
The Army isn’t my job. It’s who I am. What I am. My loyalty is to my dad, my teammates, and my country. Nothing and no one has ever come close to shaking that foundation, and I didn’t see it changing. At least, not while I was still in. Except destiny doesn’t play by my rules. I know Bellamy Sutherland is mine as soon as I saw her. The position that brought her here isn’t permanent, but the one I want to give her is.
