In this variation, Mr. Darcy’s mother, Lady Anne, is alive and well. Though her husband passed away three years earlier, she remains the undisputed mistress of Pemberley…a title she has no intention of relinquishing. At least, not to anyone who could actually succeed in that role.
At his mother’s request, Mr. Darcy journeys to Rosings Park at Easter in order to propose to his Cousin Anne. There, he meets an enchanting young lady named Elizabeth Bennet, and Cousin Anne simply cannot compare. But Mr. Darcy is a well-trained English gentleman, and he cannot follow his heart if it means going against his mother’s wishes.
